During a year of global disruption, C Brown continued its efforts to operate the business smoothly to ensure customers still benefitted from a cohesive and efficient service.

2018

Continued investment pays dividends. Partnerships add value. Working in partnership with customers and suppliers saw further investment in infrastructure, six over-head girder cranes and remote sheet handlers now support a commitment to service.

Our transport fleet continues to grow, offering logistic solutions to UK and Ireland customers.

2015

Following the company's continuous investment strategy, a new decoiling line was commissioned. The introduction of our TCSF Hot Rolled Cut to Length line increased production capabilities with its impressive range of 3mm to 20mm in gauge and widths from 700mm up to 2100mm. Comprising of a 7 roll flattener, two precision levellers and an 11 metre run off bed, the TCSF line is improving C. Brown's ability to service the sectors it operates within.

2014

Choosing strategic partners is never easy. This year saw the cementing of supply and service partnerships with world class global suppliers such as Trumpf, Bystronic and Lantek. Using both machinery and software the business entered into new markets.


2013

JCB Global Suppliers Award 2013, recognised by a Global OEM business that demands the best in quality and service, this award is about commitment and continuity. C Brown a valued member of the supply chain.


2008

Credit Crunch, the year everyone thought the world was going to end. Through expedient management, we continued our success.

2005

Roy, Graham, Roger and Sue decided it was time to hand over the responsibility to the “next generation”. A number of the founder's grandchildren took control and ownership, treading a new path, but continuing with their father's visions and aspirations of offering service with steel.

1999

Windmill Works saw the acquisition of a Trumpf 4kw 4000x2000 laser cutting machine, offering new supply solutions to customers ever increasing demands on quality and tolerance.


1998

Cochrane House saw the commissioning and installation of a new multi-strand blanking line, this new strip mill processing work centre allowed for improved production efficiencies.


1995

Staying at the forefront of the industry, C Brown purchased a new cutting machine. Technology employing high definition plasma cutting gave further addition to the expanding list of services offered to its customers.

1980

New premises were acquired to expand an ever growing business. “Windmill Works” became a key operational centre, enabling the company to re-locate the gas cutting Profile Division for the business to enlarge the product portfolio and the manufacturing processes. 

1979

Following the construction of the new head quarters, another milestone in strip mill processing was made with the commissioning of “never done before” 2000mm wide x 15mm thick decoiler.


1978

Taking its name from the old foundry “Cochrane & Co.” C Brown commissioned its new UK Head Quarters “Cochrane House”. This new building encompassed an administration centre, public weighbridge and a purpose built strip mill steel service centre. 

1970

A new decade. New processing and new methods of manufacturing saw shearing guillotines, gas cutting profiles machines and a cold flattening facility installed to further compliment our services in steel.


1969

Over 20 years of successful trading. It was in this year that the largest investment yet for the business would commence; the commissioning of the first independent heavy strip mill decoiling machine outside of British Steel.

1967

Gas cutting of steel profiles continues to grow.


1958

Welcoming the family, eldest son Roy joined his father, soon followed by Graham and Roger.  



1952

C Brown continued to grow and our founder commissioned purpose-built premises to accommodate the expanding business. Believed to be the first specialist commissioned Steel Service Centre in the UK.

1946

Our founder established C Brown from his own home, quickly moving to a small yard at Old Hill, in the heart of the Back Country. Having grown the business the company moved to larger premises on Peartree Lane, Dudley.
